These days, between drug stores and TV commercials, we’re inundated with so many choices to relieve pain, colds and flus, diarrhea, upset stomachs, allergies, and so on.How do you know which products are best? And why the heck do we need so many?

We can surely waste a lot of time in the drug store searching for the perfect remedy. Reading label after label and hoping we don’t suffer any funky side effects. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to use natural medicine for almost all of your health concerns without the fear of side effects? Well you can. The solution is therapeutic grade essential oils.

Essential oils have been used as medicine for thousands of years. And today, the rediscovery of true, medicinal aromatherapy is affecting thousands of people in profound ways. I am one of those fortunate people who have experienced, first hand, the medicinal benefits of essential oils. And I will never be without them!

Please know that I’m not suggesting you stop any prescription medications you might be taking. Those are very important for your health. Always consult with your doctor before stopping or lowering your dose.

Here are 3 easy natural remedies for some all-to-common ailments using pure therapeutic grade essential oils:

1. For Fevers: Rub 3 drops of Peppermint essential oil on each foot. This has worked for me and many people I know, and it’s especially good for children. For children under 2, dilute 1 part essential oil with 10 parts organic vegetable oil.

Peppermint essential oil is also great for upset stomachs, headaches, stuffy noses, indigestion, improving concentration and healing insect bites. One bottle of peppermint essential oil could easily replace at least 6 different medications in your medicine cabinet.

2. For Allergies: Rub a drop or two of Lavender essential oil on your cheeks and under your nose to help clear allergic symptoms, such as sneezing, stuffy nose and watery eyes.

Lavender essential oil is a natural antihistamine and it’s also a great stress-reliever. It helps to calm the body and mind when inhaled. It also cleanses cuts and wounds, prevents scaring from burns and helps heal sunburn. Having a bottle of lavender essential oil on hand can replace quite a few common medications.

3. For Joint Pain: Rub a few drops of an essential oil blend called PanAway on sore joints, as needed. This blend has helped me with back pain more times than I can count!

PanAway essential oil blend contains wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens), helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum), clove (Syzygium aromaticum) and peppermint (Mentha piperita.) This blend is also helpful to relieve muscle soreness associated with exercising. By using PanAway, you’re able to replace over-the-counter muscle rubs and even common pain reliever pills.

The beauty of using therapeutic grade essential oils is that you are able to get the same results as if you were using common medications, but without the side effects. Please remember that when you are using essential oils as medicine, ONLY use therapeutic grade.

Bruce Berkowsky, N.M.D, M.H., M.M.C.

Phytoessences (plant essential oils) exert emotional and physical effects via the perception of their respective scents. The olfactory nerves: nerves related to the sense of smell are directly connected to cerebral centers, including the hypothalamus: a crucial portion of the brain stem. Phytoessences contain very active biochemical components including hormone precursors which can be utilized by the organism’s physical plane. The hypothalamus plays a pivotal role both in maintaining physiological homeostasis and by serving as the link between the autonomic nervous and endocrine (hormonal) systems.

In addition to essential oils providing benefit on a physical level, they also exert a strong influence upon the psycho-spiritual plane. I designed the art of Spiritual PhytoEssencing (SPE) to help an individual overcome the separation from one’s higher self that lies at the core of emotional and physical disharmony. SPE is a synthesis of certain aspects of aromatherapy, herbal folklore and medicine, doctrine of signatures, classical homeopathy, modern physiology, Kabbalah, anthroposophical science, Chinese medicine, depth psychology, gemstone healing and color therapy.

In SPE, the bioenergetic, rather than the chemical, aspect of an essential oil is given greater emphasis. Plants are alive, and everything that lives has a soul. The essential oil is the carrier of the soul of the plant. Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophical medicine, notes: “Matter is most spiritual in the perfume of the plant…When the spirit most closely approaches the physical earth, then we have the perception of fragrance.” An essential oil, the bonding medium for the soul of the plant, is uniquely suited to act as the physical entity that can facilitate an interface between plant and human souls.

Imaginative consciousness is an important element in SPE. In the context of this discussion, the term imaginative consciousness refers to overcoming the limitations of analysis of the material aspects of the oils performed exclusively by the senses and intellect via a complementary perception of the spiritual roots which sustain said material aspects. While these formative processes are imperceptible, they nevertheless are the source of all the material properties of an essential oil. Every living cell must be animated by a vital force, or “ensouled,” and it’s this incarnation of higher forces into living tissue that lends each organism its tangible expression. Hence, when using essential oils for psycho-spiritual work, all of the physical features, folkloric and historical associations, etc. of the plant can be used to develop an understanding of its spiritual roots.

In the following section, I have combined the conventional properties and indications for two essential oils discussed with a brief description of the psycho-spiritual themes (as elaborated by the SPE synthesis) specific to each oil. The psycho-spiritual perspective provides crucial information which allows for precise individualization of the therapeutic use of these oils. A general principle of clinical practice is: The success of a given therapy is directly proportional to the degree that said therapy is individualized. While general measures are hit or miss, individualized therapy is precisely targeted. Ideally, one should select essential oils that “fit the case” on both physical and psycho-spiritual levels. When this is done, the impression that the oil makes upon the organism is far deeper and longer-lasting.

Rosemary Oil

Properties and Indications: general detoxification; cardiovascular tonic; increases arterial and peripheral circulation; aids degenerative tissue; stimulates circulation and metabolism of skin layers; memory loss; mental strain and fatigue; poor concentration; lethargy; depression; inhibited expression of thoughts and feelings; lack of self-confidence; low self-esteem; poor resolve; negativity; over-thinking; nerve weakness; exhaustion; paralysis; fluid retention; obesity; muscle pains, cramps, sprains, contractures, arthritis and myalgia; and varicose veins; damaged skin; cellulite.

Among essential oils, rosemary is one of the highest in hydrogen-content, and this element is particularly influential regarding rosemary oil’s soul-nature. Hydrogen is the most volatile element, and it strives continuously to escape from the Earth’s grasp back to the cosmos from which it came. Hydrogen is the lightest of the elements and highly inflammable. Hydrogen can almost never be encountered on earth in its free state. Hydrogen, as an active gas is bi-atomic (i.e., occurs as H2, meaning 2 atoms of hydrogen bonded together). Essential oils are primarily hydrocarbons; in other words, they are built from hydrogen and carbon. Among other things, carbon serves to anchor hydrogen and prevent its escape from Earth. Astrologically, rosemary is ruled by the sun. Significantly, the sun and other stars consist almost entirely of hydrogen. Nearly the entire cosmos was constituted out of hydrogen. It is estimated that 90% of all atoms and 75% of the mass of the universe are made of hydrogen. Rosemary is not only ruled by the sun but requires plentiful sunlight and warmth in order to flourish. The thermonuclear fusion of hydrogen nuclei supplies the universe with its light and heat.

Given rosemary’s association with hydrogen, it’s not surprising that one of the central themes of the rosemary oil type is the desire to become unified—for all the loose parts to coalesce into harmonious “oneness.” She has a strong desire to experience the world as one total unity—to have a symbiotic relationship with another being and attain unity with God. However, she’s still in touch with the universe, and so, at times may feel as if she’s separated from her body and estranged from her family and/or society. She is prone to feeling betrayed, rejected or abandoned, and her desire for having a total experience of oneness may encourage nervous exhaustion. Ultimately, she has difficulty achieving anything and desperately looks for something to hold on to. She may develop the delusional feeling that she has not fully incarnated into this world. Using this description, we can say that one of the main feelings of the rosemary oil type is the issue of whether “to be or not to be.” In other words, she must make a decision as to whether to commit to material existence with all its degrees of separation and harsh realities or opt for the idealized oneness which only death or a delusional, ethereal, invariably dysfunctional, state can sustain.

A central theme related to rosemary is: If I can stay warm (on both physical and spiritual levels), remember (what is good in my life and those who have been good to me) to be faithful (to God, my family, marriage, ideals) and achieve harmonious “oneness” (within myself, with a partner, God and the universe), everything will be okay.

Yarrow Oil

Properties and Indications: lymphatic stimulant; vascular tonic; stimulates blood renewal; depression; anger; anger associated with emotional wounding or feelings of vulnerability; easily annoyed; bitterness; grief or loss; feelings of rejection; stress-related conditions; hemorrhage; sinus and/or respiratory congestion; hemorrhoids; varicose veins; backache; rheumatism.

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is named for the Greek hero Achilles who used the herb to treat his wounded soldiers during the siege of Troy. In fact, yarrow was used in this capacity up to and through the American Civil War. Achilles, who was predisposed by his mother from birth to play the role of hero, chose to live a short, glorious life rather than a long, uneventful one. In ancient Rome, yarrow was dedicated to the spilling of blood in honor of Mars, the god of war. Also, yarrow has a rich tradition for the treatment of wounds inflicted by weapons and was once referred to as “Military Herb” or “Soldier’s Wound Wort.” Yet there is a unique polarity in yarrow in that it also has a soft, yielding side to its nature for which its many soft, finely-branched leaves are a prominent signature. Furthermore, the English name yarrow is derived from the Old English word gearwe which means “the healer.”

The Romans believed that yarrow could be used to court the favor of Venus, the Roman goddess of love, who intervenes in affairs of the heart. The characteristic love theme of yarrow is of the “my heart bleeds for you” variety; this type of passion is imbued with a subtle subtext of violence. A yarrow-type typically sees courtship as a process of “winning her hand.” In other words, love is not unlike war, because it involves tactical maneuvering and the feeling of I must have her. I cannot lose, or I will be mortally wounded. Think of yarrow for blood feuds over love. Romeo and Juliet is a play with yarrow undertones. Yarrow may also be useful in other love and “giving” situations which feature violent aspects such as: uterine spasms after a hard-birth delivery, and recovery from the consequences of donating blood (a form of deliberate self-wounding out of compassion for someone else).

In the yarrow picture, one can clearly perceive the themes of urgency: do or die, and must take risks to recover lost ground and/or maintain a position of comfort. Yarrow oil is specific for the individual for whom life is a form of combat. Love, family, career all engender battles. The yarrow type tends to be an intellectual idealist who opts for the road less traveled. And settling into a job which is not his true calling or marrying a woman who is not his true soul-mate, is anathema. Hence, he approaches his career, courtship, etc. with a sense of urgency, a need to take risks, a feeling of do or die. The world is not kind to idealists who are willing to put it all on the line, and inevitably the yarrow type does have to fight a lot of battles and suffer many wounds. The cumulative effect of these struggles and wounds wears the yarrow type down, and he can become debilitated and angry, bitter, melancholy and filled with self-doubt. The yarrow oil picture has the symptoms: fear of heights and dreams of falling, both of which suggest trepidation about being ousted from a position of power or losing a hard-won position of comfort. However, no matter how bad things get, he remains hopeful, knowing that if only certain pieces would come together just so, he would be able to achieve the victory, and the position of comfort it affords, that he so ardently desires.

Bruce Berkowsky, N.M.D., M.H., H.M.C.

Essential oils are the carrier of the plant’s soul. Anthroposophy founder Rudolf Steiner states: “Matter is most spiritual in the perfume of the plant…When the spirit most closely approaches the physical earth, then we have the perception of fragrance.”

According to Kabbalah, the human soul contains animal-, plant- and human soul components. Thus, each of us has the ability to relate to plant souls on a soul-to-soul level. When the human soul becomes preoccupied with the daily challenges of life, rational consciousness becomes estranged from the higher self and mired in “stuckness.” All chronic diseases have this quality of inertia in common.

The plant soul is not encumbered by ego, so it has the qualities of purity and infinity. Thus, the individualized plant soul combination within an essential oil blend, when proffered to the human soul, has the potential to be eagerly received and infuse the latter with impetus to move beyond limitation by changing its orientation from the finite to the Infinite.

Key to moving the soul in this way is the formulation of an oil blend which accurately reflects an individual’s true self. Living within the context of one’s true soul nature requires continuous connection with one’s higher self. Happiness is the key to wellness. No unhappy person can truly be well. In turn, the key to happiness lies in accepting, and living in accordance with, one’s authentic self and having this acknowledged by others.

In order to do soul-level healing work with essential oils, one has to become familiar with the inner- or soul-nature of each of the essential oils that is worked with.

Using Imaginative Consciousness

In this discussion, the term imaginative consciousness refers to overcoming limitations of analysis of the material aspects of essential oils performed exclusively by senses and intellect via a complementary perception of the spiritual roots which sustain said material aspects. Like the human soul, the plant soul contains the spiritual roots for plants’ material and bioenergetic manifestations. Hence, when using essential oils for soul-spiritual work, all the biophysical and bioenergetic features of the plant are used to develop an understanding of spiritual roots.

Plants are alive and all living things are ensouled. Just like each of our souls is unique and has certain individualized specificities and tangible qualities, so do plant souls. The specific mix of archetypal qualities which are encoded into each soul gives rise to the various characteristics and behavioral modes we manifest in our lives.

Similarly, a plant’s biochemistry, form, growth characteristics, therapeutic properties and historical and folkloric associations are reflections or images of its soul’s constituent pattern of archetypal qualities. These archetypal images can be used to identify the unique nature of an essential oil’s true self – its natural expression of being.

If essential oils are blended together with an understanding of the true inner nature of each oil, the oils in the blend will merge and form a uniquely organized ensouled substance which is more powerfully charged with soul force than the sum of its parts. When diverse soul energies are synchronized in this way, the integrated soul force demonstrates what is referred to as emergent behavior. In turn, this can be used to catalyze emergent behavior in the human soul which is directed toward harmonization and the elaboration of that person’s true self.

We generally forsake our true selves in early childhood when we are taught that they are not enough. We then exchange our natural expression of being for a survival personality we fabricate that hopefully proves to be functional and meets the approval of our parents, teachers, etc. In the process, we become estranged from the true self, or ‘living soul’, and this estrangement fuels the sense of incompleteness, aloneness and disharmony we struggle with our entire lives.

The key to achieving soul-level reintegration via work with essential oils is the ability to get beyond a focus on their biochemistry and therapeutic actions and access and acknowledge the unique soul-nature of each oil that is the spiritual root of the oil’s physical properties. When this is done, the plant souls harbored within the oils will respond reciprocally and the human soul/plant soul encounter will be illuminated by spirit.

The greater the number of essential oils one understands on this level, the more dynamic the potential for creating blends which will touch the soul on deeper and deeper levels and provide the illumination to lead it from inertial stuckness and fragmentation to wholeness and soul-to-soul relation with all elements of the natural world. In this way one can re-establish the natural capacity, lost in early childhood, to connect earthly fire with heavenly light.

Most dedicated athletes are willing to try anything within reason (a very flexible term in itself) to overcome injury so that they may resume training and/or competition. ‘Rest’ is never what they want to hear – they want to get right back into the swing of things. The more common injuries – tendonitis, strains and sprains, and variations of these conditions are found in many sports; they typically include inflammation and some sort of tissue damage. Programs for relief are fairly well-known; they each have their plusses and minuses. Rarely, however, do athletes or trainers consider the possibilities of ‘aroma’-therapy. The name itself presents a very ‘touchy-feel’ type of medicine, not considered strong enough or truly effective enough for practical application. However, what aromatherapy is really working with are complex phytochemical compounds with a broad spectrum of interaction with human biochemistry. It is under these auspices that athletes and trainers may investigate the usefulness of Helichrysum Italicum essential oil.

Medical aromatherapists understand the efficacy of essential oils for particular conditions; the oils are not considered a natural cure-all, but each plant offers chemical compounds with clear specificity of effects. Beyond the effects of each chemical compound within an oil, some oils efficacy is a clear synergy of the particular chemical makeup. Individual chemicals within essential oils are well-known antivirals, antimicrobials, anti-inflammatories, expectorants, mucolytics, anti-tumorials…and the list goes on. Some essential oils will contain synergies of these compounds; oils suggested for colds will contain components that are antibacterial, antiviral, and mucolytic (cleanses breathing passages) all in one essential oil. And what does this offer for the injured athlete? The possibility of speedier return to training and competition with Helichrysum italicum essential oil, which contains a synergy of compounds which can act to support healing of a great variety of common injuries.

The physiological basis of many sports injuries, both chronic – from overuse – and acute, from impacts, twists and strains, have many similarities. There is usually some cells that have suffered structural damage – some enough that the cells will die and need to be re-grown. There is typically inflammation, which can be a means of the cells protecting themselves, or a result of fluid leakage into the intracellular space. This fluid can be blood from damaged capillaries, and appear as bruising; either way swelling will prevent proper perfusion – or nutrient and waste exchange – at the damaged site. This can lead to secondary damage – where cells around the originally damaged tendon, ligament or muscle cells are also becoming damaged by lack of oxygenation or nutrient supply. Further damage can occur through the over-production of free-radicals under such conditions. One can imagine the phenomenon of ice being applied immediately after an injury leading to a significantly shorter (and less painful) recovery – a long wait increases the possibility of secondary damage. The ice prevents the secondary damage associated with swelling and oxidation from occurring.

Now for a look at the synergistic actions of Helichrysum Italicum essential oil (there are several types of Helichrysum essential oil available – it is the Italicum, also known as Everlasting or Immortele, that has these particular properties. It is more rare, and more costly than other types of Helichrysum, but worth the extra cost). Helichrysum has a high percentage of anti-inflammatory sesquiterpenes – nearly 50% of it’s makeup. Another 40% is made up of Esters with marked relaxing effects on tissues – relieving tension in injured areas and allowing natural perfusion to take place. The third major component is a di-ketone, which signals tissues to regenerate. These di-ketones are rare, and Helichrysum Italicum contains the highest known percentage.

It is the synergistic activity of these components working together on an injured area that can have a pronounced effect on healing common sports-related injuries. One professional athlete recently relayed an account of his use of the oil – after lack of success in treating achilles tendonitis, he was sure he was going to have to drop out of an important upcoming event. He had been taking MSM, using topical Dimethylsulfoxide, consuming oral anti-infamies, and attempting to address the imbalance which had caused the injury in the first place – all to no avail. After learning about Helichrysum, he decided it was worth a try, and after three days of regular application to the tendon, the pain was gone and he was able to continue his training at maximum capacity!

While this is only one case, it is interesting that relief was found so quickly, and to a chronic injury that was otherwise difficult to treat. The scientific medical aromatherapy literature describes usage for acute injuries (such as recently twisted ankles, wrists, or areas bruised from impact) more frequently. According to Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt in Advanced Aromatherapy, “Everlasting oil is certainly one of the most astounding essential oils. Its very unique chemical composition along with (all) essential oil’s ability to penetrate into tissue and the circulatory system permit some spectacular treatments. Used for bruises, sprains, and twisted ankles – usually accompanied by swelling and subsequent hemorrhages – this oil proves practically to be a wonder cure.” He goes on to mention that the earlier the application of the oil following an acute injury, the more pronounced the heaing effect.

If you decide to try the oil for yourself, be sure of your source, and that the variety is correct one discussed here. The oil is appropriate for range of injuries – minor to major – though of course it is not a substitute for proper medical attention in any way. Using the oil in conduction with a prescribed therapy should be discussed with your doctor. The literature does state that the oil is very well tolerated, and can be applied directly to the skin undiluted. An application of a thin film a few times a day, as soon as chronic pain is noted, or an acute injury occurs, is best. The oil can be used on broken or damaged skin – in fact, it is included in formulas to reduce scar formation along with Rosehipseed and Hazelnut oils (a 5% dilution of Helichrysum in a 50/50 blend of these two base oils can be used to support wound healing). As with any therapy, be aware of how you’re body is responding to treatment, and consult a medical professional with any questions or concerns about it’s use. In summary, Helichrysum italicum essential oil is a gentle, topical treatment which may speed healing for many common sport-related injuries. It is regarded as a very safe oil and is worth a try if you are in need of such support.

Essential Oils have very good home uses. They can be used to clean and disinfect your home. Tea tree oil mixed with distilled water works just as a well any cleaner that you may buy from your local Wal-Mart or grocery store. It is also less expensive then your retail cleaners.
Essential oils are perfect for cleaning places like your bathroom or your kitchen.

It sounds very simple to offer any meaning to the true value of essential oil. This is because a common characteristic to it is that it is truly gotten from a natural plants and it has been found to be equally indispensable to the health of man. The study of these indispensable oils and their use has laid accent on the medicinal importance especially when mixed with others substances, but this should be mixed according to prescribed standards.

The medicinal value or importance of natural herbs should not only be the most important thing to us. In order to fully understand these values or importance, it is essential to know what they mean. If you have experienced the feeling of any scent or fragrance changing your mood, then you will easily find a place to harbor what I am trying to say. Just like taking a walk out of a stale atmosphere into some fresh air for a revitalization of your body and mind, so too does the fragrance of some essential plants bring out the vigor in you.

To better explain the meaning of these essential oils, one can begin by simply attributing them as products from plants or from parts of plants. These products are a bit moist and are more of an actual representation of the plants from which they are taken from. Essential oils can exist in more than a hundred components and their accessibility is determined by their cost and value. The essential thing about these oils is that they provide both bodily and mental relieve to man.

The above should not limit the true meaning of essential oils to just explaining them as wholesome and natural products from plants or from parts of the plants. The meaning could also be explained according to their usage. The truth about essential oils is that they are multipurpose in usage. There are mostly prescribed for external use. The main difference between essential oils and perfumes is that perfumes are mixed with compounds to give a synthetic scent. But essential oils are natural oils and they are often mixed with other natural oils. A good example of pure and natural essential oil is lavender and sandalwood.

Essential oil is utilized depending on the temperament of the illness. It can either be rubbed on the surface or it can be inhaled. When rubbed, it calms down and cures the ailment in the affected regions. When inhaled, it lessens any clogging or obstructions within the body. The properties of the oil have also been known to act as remedy to mental stress and for general nourishment of the body. These oils are also essential as washing/cleaning agents and as insecticide within the house.

From the explanation of what essential oil is all about, it can be seen that the healing powers of it can only be realized once the product is taken under strict adherence to prescriptions; else they can result to further complications in the body. You must equally know that the mode of usage is another important feature towards a better explanation of it.

Essential oils are the fragrant nectar found in various plants all over the world. There are dozens of different essential oils, each with their own uses and properties. In this article, you’ll learn a little more about three amazing essential oils: Frankincense, Cedarwood and Peppermint.

After you read this article, you’ll know exactly how you can use these three essential oils to help yourself and others.

Frankincense

Frankincense is one of the most amazing essential oils available. Its history dates all the way back to Jesus Christ, when one of the sages gifted Frankincense to baby Jesus. This oil has found its way from the east all the way to Europe and the United States.

One of the most amazing properties of Frankincense is because it can bypass the barrier of the brain and activate different areas of the brain. Because of this, Frankincense can help cure emotionally and physical ailments that other essential oils can’t. It can help in the healing depression, brain damage and even tumors or cancer.

There’s a wide variety of other uses, including: Treating allergies, improving the immune system, helping combat infections and many more.

Cedarwood

Cedarwood is known to many as the essential oil of “Harmony.” Just like Frankincense, it also has many different uses.

Cedarwood is one of the few medicines in the world that have proven to help in curing impotence.

Cedarwood can help in repairing damaged hairs. It can even help get rid of flees from dogs. Cedarwood can also act as an insect repellant for humans.

Cedarwood can also be used to help provide relief from asthma symptoms.

Peppermint

Although peppermint has now gotten popular as an ingredient in food, few people understand the healing properties of its essential oils in its purist form.

Peppermint can help relieve both bad breath and diarrhea. It can help with the digestive system and relieve indigestion.

It can help relieve various aches all over the body, including foot and muscle aches. Peppermint is also the only essential oil that can really help with headaches.

Finally, believe it or not, peppermint can help you recover from jet lag by setting your natural time clock back on track. Carrying a bit of peppermint on your travels can make a big difference in your jet lag recovery time.

3 Amazing Essential Oils

You now know about these three amazing essential oils and their healing properties. Each essential oil has its own story, its own uses and healing properties. The lists provided in this article are by no means comprehensive.

Each essential oil has a wide range of uses, some of which depend on how they’re applied. An aromatherapy massage therapist may choose different scents and essential oils than an aromatherapist. Experiencing essential oils through a massage therapist, an aromatherapist and through your own experimentation are all different yet equally amazing experiences.

Although essential oils are amazing in their curative properties, do remember to consult a doctor in the case of any serious medical issue. That said; enjoy your exploration of essential oils. It could be an amazing journey.

Aromatherapy essential oils are quite common, and with 90 to choose from, there has to be some that will benefit you as well. These aromatherapy essential oils are broken up by categories. While these oils don’t have side effects and they are to benefit you, there are some safety precautions you need to be aware of.

All of the aromatherapy essential oils are highly concentrated. Only use them as directed. Keep them out of the reach of children and pets. Never mix aromatherapy essential oils without having a proper recipe to go from. Some of these oils don’t mix well together. If you are using a recipe, only add the amount of each essential oil as outlined.

Carrier oils are base oils. They are commonly used to dilute other oils before they are applied to the skin. You should always by natural carrier oils as they will stay good longer. Many products offers carrier oils with vitamin E added. You don’t want to use them. Most carrier oils are clear or a very light yellow color. The most common carrier aromatherapy essential oils are sweet almond and grape seed.

The most commonly used aromatherapy essential oils are those that improve your emotional state. This is a great way to balance your mental state. However, you need to understand this isn’t a permanent solution for dealing with your issues. Aromatherapy essential oils can help relieve stress, fatigue, and calm the nerves. Lavender and Sweet Orange are the best aromatherapy essential oils to use for your emotional health.

There are some aromatherapy essential oils out there that you should avoid using. They are very potent and should only be used by an expert in aromatherapy.

1. Juniper

Juniper oil has been used for hundreds of years as a household disinfectant.

Juniper essential oil is helpful for:

1. Acne: Mix four drops of juniper oil with 2 tsp (10 ml) of carrier oil and gently massage the face and neck (and shoulders if acne is present there).

2. Cystitis and Period pain: Blend into a carrier oil and rub the lower abdomen at regular intervals. Also add five or six drops to your bathwater and soak for at least fifteen minutes.

3. Muscular/rheumatic pain: Use for massage or in the bath

4. Poor blood circulation: Juniper is stimulating oil. Use in the bath, or in carrier oil, daily to improve circulation.

5. Stress and anxiety: Use for massage, in the bath or in a vaporizer.

2. Jasmine

The essential oil is extracted from the flower of the jasmine bush. This oil has a beautiful, exotic aroma and is really helpful in cases of extreme nervous anxiety and stress. It is one of the most expensive oils and is often used in the manufacture of perfumes.

2. Nervous exhaustion: Use in carrier oil for massage or inhale.

3. Period pain: Use in carrier oil and massage the lower abdomen and back at regular intervals.

3. Lemon

It takes 3000 lemons to produce 2 pounds (1 kg) of essential oil. It is extracted by pressing the rind of the fruit.
